Women’s Adventures Are On The Rise

The Women’s Adventure Award at Dreamland Safari Tours is in its 3rd year

Calling all women adventurers! We first launched the Women’s Adventure Award in 2021 with the desire to encourage women’s participation in outdoor adventures and contribute to gender equity, and we are excited for the Women’s Adventure Award to have become an annual tradition.

Utah has a long history with women’s leadership (read more), and we here at Dreamland Safari Tours are happy to fit right into that strong tradition of female leadership in the region. Even though outdoor adventure is still a traditionally male-dominated field, we proudly count multiple female desert guides among our staff – and more than 50% women employees overall when you include non-guide staff! In addition, Dreamland co-owner Sunny Stroeer has long been an outspoken advocate for female participation in backcountry adventures.

That’s why we are excited to offer a select number of women’s adventures each year in collaboration with AWExpeditions, as well as a special celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD).  Utah is magnificent, and women have played and continue to play an integral role in shaping it.  Dreamland Safari Tours is carrying that legacy forward – because  everyone wins when gender equity extends to the great outdoors.

The Dreamland Women’s Adventure Award – 2023 Edition

The 2023 theme for International Women’s Day is #EmbraceEquity. We are celebrating the 2023 International Women’s Day early by about a month, by hosting an all-women adventure weekend in Kanab from February 10 to 12 2023.

Four hand-picked women will get to unplug and adventure in Kanab together, enjoying an unforgettable, full-day desert hiking adventure led by one of Dreamland Safari Tours women guides as well as two nights of lodging and meals – including a kick-off dinner hosted by Dreamland Safari Tours co-owners Sunny Stroeer and Paul Gagner, a VIP tour of the Best Friends Sanctuary, and more.  Did we mention it’s all on the house?

The Women’s Adventure Award is intended to create a platform for women to connect with one another and enjoy adventures that they otherwise might not have the chance to participate in.  Recipients of the women’s adventure award love the outdoors, have a sense of adventure, are advocates for female participation and leadership in their community, and inspire others. You can apply for yourself, or nominate a family member / friend!

Each Women’s Adventure Award is valued at over $750 and includes:

  • A full day backcountry hiking adventure with Dreamland Safari Tours
  • A VIP tour of the Best Friends Sanctuary and lunch with one of Best Friends Animal Society’s Founders
  • Two nights of lodging at the Best Friends Roadhouse

All ages are welcome.  Participants should be prepared to hike a minimum of five miles and up to eight miles across varied terrain that may include deep sand, steep ascents, and potentially some gentle scrambling.

Applications & nominations for Dreamland’s 2023 Women’s Adventure Award closed on December 27 2022.  Applications for the 2024 Women’s Adventure Award will open in Q4 2023.  Make sure to sign up for our newsletter to stay up-to-date.
