These FAQs are specific to this tour. If you would like to view our general FAQs CLICK HERE.

1. Is the Great Chamber Adventure an easy hike?
The Great Chamber is not a long hike, but it does require a steep uphill climb in deep sand to gain the entrance to the Chamber. There is also a small fence to step over coming out of the parking area.  You should be steady on your feet and feel confident in your ability to tackle a hard hiking effort for ~10-15 minutes.

2. Where exactly is the Great Chamber?
The Great Chamber is in the great Kanab area, on deep sand roads a few miles off the closest paved roads.

3. Is the Great Chamber good for photography? May I bring my tripod?
Yes! The Great Chamber is fantastic for photography. Landscape photographers will delight in early morning sun burst opportunities as the sand dune in the Great Chamber is bathed in a soft glow. Hobbyist photographers love the Chamber at all times of the day, including in the afternoon for wonderful and unique silhouette shots. For astro photographers, the Great Chamber is a cherished Milky Way location — best approached in the spring (May through July) when the Milky Way rises in such a way that it is beautifully framed in the Great Chamber’s opening. If you are interested in Great Chamber Milky Way photography, check out our premium Great Chamber Milky Way workshop with Cody York

5. Are drones allowed on this tour?
Yes, drones are allowed on this tour, but the Great Chamber is not necessarily a good place to fly a drone. It is a singular spot and there may be other people in close proximity. When operating a drone on tours, please be mindful of other guests on the tour and other hikers who may be in the area. Others seek remote locations for the solitude. Please do not fly drones close to other people and limit the amount of time the drone is in the air. Always follow instructions from your guide.

Guest Experiences with Dreamland Safari Tours

My husband, my sister and her family all went on a 2 hour tour and both appreciated and enjoyed the skilled driving of the tour guide (we never could have managed that on our own!) She was passionate about her job, and did well to educate our group, especially speaking in a manner understandable to my very young nieces and nephews (ages 6-15). We got to see the Mystic Slot canyon, get up close to a fin (rock formation), and see pictographs from ancient native tribes.

If I could give them a 6, I would. First off we scheduled late, but they accommodated our needs and set us up with a tour of the slot canyons for the next day. Steve our guide was knowledgeable about the area allowed sufficient time to take pictures without making us feeling like we were being shuttled to the next stop. I have been on some tours with other companies were you just feel rushed the whole tour, but not with Dreamland. If you are able, take a tour with Dreamland, you will not regret it.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the slot canyons. It was extremely informative and also great fun. We all enjoyed being jostled around in the 4WD going to and from the canyons. The views from the lookout were spectacular.

Very nice excursion at Slot Canyon almost private for our family of 4. The place is so nice and very easy to access event with kids. The Guide Steve is very nice and helpful. I will definitively recommend the tour to my friends, family and clients.

Just completed a truly wonderful visit to White Pocket on a photo safari with Dreamland and AZ Highways Photo Tours. Dreamland’s outfitters were outstanding. Food was almost too good and plentiful. Their service and attention to detail is outstanding. Not sure when my next trip is with them but I’m already looking forward to it!

About Dreamland Safari Tours’ Zion National Park Full Day Hiking Tour

Zion has an amazing number of stunning trails for all ability levels.  We offer three different options to meet everyone’s needs:

Angels Landing (permit required)
The Narrows
Zion Guide’s Choice

All of our tours originate from Dreamland Safari Tours’ headquarters in Kanab; we can also meet guests in Springdale. All of our Zion tours typically depart Kanab at 8am, and Springdale at 9:30am, though tour timing may be adjusted depending on conditions and permit requirements.

Kanab guests: We can pick you up at any Kanab area hotel, vacation rental, or RV park – in-town pickups have a 15-minute meeting window. Or you may meet us at our in-town office 15-minutes prior to the tour start time.  Guests will be responsible for the park’s entrance fee ($20 per-person, 15 and under free, or free with a valid America the Beautiful Annual Pass).

Springdale guests: We will meet you at the walk-in entrance behind Zion Outfitters. We have a 15-minute meeting window.  Your guide will be wearing a Dreamland shirt or hat and will have your cell phone number.

Regardless of whether we are meeting you in Kanab or Springdale, we will enter the park via the Springdale walk-in entrance and get in line for the shuttle. During periods of high visitation, shuttle lines can be up to an hour long.

Please note: Due to park stipulations, guests are responsible for the park’s entrance fee ($20 per-person, 15 and under free, or free with a valid America the Beautiful Annual Pass).

Angels Landing

Our Angels Landing tour (permits required!) is a breathtaking adventure to one of the most iconic summit viewpoints anywhere.  A permit is required.  We will disembark the shuttle at the Grotto, Shuttle Stop 6, cross the road and begin our hike.  Our expert guides will lead the way through Zion’s iconic sections of trail including Walter’s Wiggles, Scout’s Landing, and the infamous ‘Chains’ section of Angel’s Landing.  The hike typically takes 4 hours round trip, though depending on fitness, and the time of year, it may take longer.  Once we complete the hike we will board the shuttle for the trip back to the visitor center, and the walk-in entrance.

About Angels Landing Permits

If you have an advance permit: Since you already have a permit, you may book a tour for up to 6 guests.  We will need to know your permit day and time to determine your itinerary.

If you don’t have advance permits we have two options:

  • We secure advance permits seasonally. Check out our website or call our office to see if we have advance permits available on the day you want to hike. Per National Park Service regulations, commercial guides may only apply for permits for hikes on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
  • You may obtain your own last-minute permits for Angels Landing the day prior to your intended hike date (via recreation.gov using this link).  You are welcome to book a Zion Day Tour for your desired hike date regardless of your permit status – this is important to ensure that we have a guide and truck available for you – but you have to manage your own permit application for Angels Landing.  If you succeed in the last-minute lottery, let us know and we’ll tailor your Zion Day tour to include the permit section of Angels Landing.  If you do not succeed, your Zion Day tour with Dreamland Safari Tours can still visit the first part of the Angels Landing Trail to Scout’s Landing; alternate destinations include the Narrows and any number of sought-after Zion hikes as part of our Guide’s Choice Tour, Zion edition.

The Narrows

The Narrows is a bucket list hike and involves continuous wading in the clear, cold waters of the Virgin River.  Proper gear is required for your safety and comfort.  Water shoes and a hiking stick are always required, and depending on the time of year, waders or waterproof pants will be needed.  We will have all gear available to rent for an additional cost.  We will disembark the shuttle at the Temple of Sinawava, Shuttle Stop 9 and begin our hike along the Riverwalk.  At the end of the Riverwalk, we will don our waterproof gear and wade upstream in the Virgin River.  We’ll follow the canyon for about 1 ½ miles to the river’s junction with Orderville Canyon. Hiking in water is a different beast from hiking on land – expect progress to be slow as you navigate the flow of the river and stop to ooh and ahh at every turn (we guides do the same!).  Once we complete the hike we will board the shuttle for the trip back to the visitor center, and the walk-in entrance.

When to hike the Narrows

Our Narrows hike is available year-around but be aware that this area closes when flash flood danger is high or the flow of the Virgin River to swift to be safe. We will alert you the day before your hike should we need to cancel and re-route your hike.

Zion Guide’s Choice

We have numerous options for multiple hikes, and for all ability levels – and kids too.  All trails are front country trails, meaning they follow well established trails to beautiful rock formations and overlooks.  Your guide will curate the specific trails based on the time of year, your interests, and ability level. Trails such as Emerald Pools, the Watchman Trail, Zion Canyon Overlook, or even the West Rim Trail to Scout’s Landing (the permit-free beginning of the Angels Landing Trail) all are options.  No matter which specific spot turns out to be the center of your day, you are guaranteed amazing views and an educational, awe-inspiring, and plain old fun experience.

About Angels Landing

Hiking Angels Landing requires a permit and offers an exhilarating and awe-inspiring adventure for outdoor enthusiasts. This iconic trail is renowned for its breathtaking views and challenging terrain. Starting from the Grotto Trailhead, the trail ascends steeply through a series of switchbacks known as Walter’s Wiggles, offering stunning views of Zion Canyon along the way. As you approach the final ascent, you will encounter the infamous and spine-tingling section with sheer drop-offs and anchored chains for safety. Once atop Angels Landing, hikers are rewarded with panoramic vistas of Zion Canyon, including the Virgin River winding through the valley below. This unforgettable hike is 5.4 miles round trip and is not for the faint of heart, but the unparalleled views make it a must-do experience for adventurers visiting Zion National Park.

Don’t have a permit? We may be able to help – give us a call at 435.644.5506 or book our Angel’s Landing Tour with outfitter permits available on select dates.

About The Narrows

Hiking the Narrows offers a unique and unforgettable adventure through one of the most stunning slot canyons in the world. Starting at the Temple of Sinawava, hikers wade into the Virgin River and venture upstream into the narrow canyon walls, where the towering sandstone cliffs rise hundreds of feet above. The hike is characterized by walking in the water, navigating shallow pools, and occasionally squeezing through narrow passages. As you progress deeper into the Narrows, the canyon walls constrict, creating a magical and otherworldly atmosphere. The scenery is breathtaking, with sunlight filtering through the narrow gaps above, illuminating the canyon’s rich colors and textures. The hike can be tailored to fit various skill levels and distances, making it accessible to adventurers of all abilities. Whether you’re seeking a leisurely stroll or an adrenaline-pumping trek, hiking the Narrows promises an unforgettable experience immersed in the beauty of Zion National Park’s most iconic slot canyon.

How hard is it to hike Angel’s Landing or the Narrows?

Both of these marquee Zion National Park adventures are demanding excursions, albeit for different reasons: the main difficulty in the Narrows is sustained wading in a cold, swift-flowing stream; renting appropriate gear helps manage exposure to cold water, but something that you have to be prepared for nonetheless is slow progress due to uneven footing, and due to the fact that you’ll be oohing and aaaaah-ing at every turn.

Angel’s Landing is the exact opposite of the Narrows: perched high above floor of Zion Canyon, Angel’s Landing presents its visitors with steep inclines, big dropoffs, and scrambly terrain that is protected by the infamous chains.

Both Angel’s Landing and the Narrows require sure-footedness, a healthy sense of adventure, and the right gear (we’ll help make sure that you’re set up with what you need).  Angel’s Landing is not advisable for those with an extreme fear of heights.
